Woking Ramblers are a diverse group of individuals who enjoy walking through the countryside observing, appreciating and discussing a wide range of topics. Naturally we don't all agree but the pair ahead or behind (delayed by the last stile) will be discussing something different (or nothing at all) and over eight to twelve miles of Surrey terrain the variety can be enormous.

Find some comfortable boots and join us on a walk:- picnic lunches of your individual choice are the norm with a quick pint at a pub at half time, if there is a convenient hostelry. All very good for you. Average physical speed 2.5 mph: mental speed phenomenal!

Woking Ramblers are particularly fortunate in having many varied paths available to walk. With the countryside becoming used for many things:- Army training grounds, crop growing, golf courses, industrial and residential development, walkers need to keep up the use of the rights of way. For this reason we support the Ramblers Association and its pursuance of the Right to Roam legislation.

The Group organises full-day and half-day walks  on various days of the week to give everybody a chance to join in. Every Sunday there is at least one walk with distances ranging from 5 to 14 miles.

In the Summer we may go as far as the South Downs, the Chilterns or the Berkshire Downs, but with the shorter days in winter we tend to stay closed to home. We sometimes meet at Brewery Road Car Park in Woking  in order to share cars - a time will be indicated against the walk in the programme.

There is also at least one Group expedition of 4 to 7 days duration further afield each year. These may be to such places as the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, the Peak District or even Ireland.

Do I have to join?

Try a few walks and see if you enjoy it before joining. That's what most members have done. Explore the local countryside, improve your fitness, meet new friends, beat the stress and worry of life and join the Ramblers!
